St John's Catholic Chapel
|
When we visited, we were hoping to see "The names John and Ellen Solon and their son Michael are inscribed on the memorial altar St. John's Catholic Church, Champaign, Ill." as noted on their gravestones. When we asked about this memorial altar, we were told that the altar has been redone several times since then, but that they did have several pieces that the Solons had donated over the years if we would like to see those. Of course we did, so we followed the nice young man around as he entered the room under the exit sign at the right of the sanctuary (through another door) and opened the cabinets there to show us the beautiful things that were inscribed with a note telling that they had been a gift from the Solon family. I tried to zoom in on the engraving, but the camera did cooperate. I wish now that I had written the exact wording down, but I didn't want to impose too much since he was kind enough to allow me to take these photos.
