Atchison, Kan. - Sharon K. (Eslinger) Soden, 56, Atchison, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at the Atchison hospital from an apparent heart attack.
Born in St. Joseph on Nov. 9, 1943, Mrs. Soden was a homemaker and a graduate of Faucett High School.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church in St. Joseph.
On February 15, 1964, she married Louis N. Soden in Faucett. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors: a son, John of the home; a daughter, Tammie Soden, Hiawatha, Kan., her parents, John and Juanita Eslinger, Faucett; two brothers, Larry Eslinger; St Joseph, and Gary Eslinger, Faucett; and a grandchild.
Service: 2p.m. Monday, Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial: Lancaster (Kan.) Cemetery. Family visitation: 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to her grandchild's college education fund or the Atchison Dialysis Unit.

DEATHS: Lois N. Stratton
Lois N. Stratton, 49, of Lancaster died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997 at the Atchison Hospital. She was born Oct. 14, 1948 in Atchison, the daughter of Louis and Ruby Hixson Soden.
She attended Lancaster Grade School and graduated from Atchison County Sommunity High School in 1966. She also was a graduate from Emporia State College with a degree in Secondary Education in 1971. She worked for several years at the Lincoln Grain Company, Atchison and was presently employed as a teacher at Atchison Middle School. She had also worked at the Atchison Youth Center for several summers.
Lois was married to James Stratton in 1973. They were later divorced.
She was a member of St.John's Lutheran Church in Lancaster and also was a foster parent.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include one son, Michael Andrew Stratton and one daughter Krystal Renea Stratton, both of the home; two brothers Louis N. Soden Jr. and Raymond E. Soden, both of Atchison; one sister, Rosemary Lentz, Atchison; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2 p.m. at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison with Pastor EMil Bartos of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Lancater Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Children's Educational Fund.

Beloved English Teacher, Lois Stratton, dies.
Students recall longtime instructor's kindness that went beyond classroom
ATCHISON, KAN. - Atchison Middle School lost more than just an English teacher Wednesday. It lost a friend.
Lois N. (Soden) Stratton, 40, of Lancaster, Kansas, died Wednesday at Atchison Hospital after a heart attack. She was in her 17th year as an eighth-grade English teacher at Atchison Middle School.
Amy Oswalt, who was one of her students in the early 1980's, said Mrs. Stratton wasn't just a teacher,
"She was a great teacher, but she was always so caring." Mrs. Oswalt said. "That's what I remember. She would always listen to your problems if you needed her to."
She not only offered her hearrt to her students, she opened her home to children in need, serving as a foster parent for many years.
"She'd always talk about her 'kids' when I'd run into around town. She considered her foster kids just as much as her own as her two children," Mrs. Oswalt said.
In addition to teaching English, Mrs. Stratton would tutor students who needed a little extra help after school, said Adolph DeAngelo, the principal at the middle school. She also supervised other after school activities.
An Atchison native, Mrs. Stratton was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Lancaster.
She graduated from Atchison County Community High School and obtained her bachelor's in secondary education from Emporia State Teachers College. She also taughter several summers at the Atchison Youth Center.
"She was just a great lady," Mr. DeAngelo said. "We're all really going to miss her."
"She'll be missed by the whole district," Superintendent Steve Pummel said.
"She was the kind of person who made you feel like family."
