Shivers - Opal Adelene Shivers was born on March 27, 1921, near Robinson, Kansas. God called her away in the early morning of July 30, 1935 after a week of pain. Thru her 14 years she made, endeaved herself to her family, friends. She completed her first year of study in the Everest hi school. Besides her many friends of school days, the Sunday school, the community, she leaves her father, mother, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Shivers, 2 brothers, 5 sisters, 2 uncles, 3 aunts, 11 cousins. One sister was called away to her new home 6 years ago. Her willingness to help at home was a great blessing. Her cheerfulness brightened every corner. She was loved at school, at work, where ever she has been known she will be missed. Her body bearers were her classmates, Dwight Geiger, Wiley Webb, Virgil Earp, Kenneth Nottingham, Fredrick Wolff, Wayne Russell. The remaining freshman girsl, Hazel Dodge, Lillie Skidmore, Rosella Schecher walked close behind. Her teacher, Prof Lawson, sang very beautifully, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist church conducted by Rev. Roy Goodell, burial in Rose Hill cemetery at Robinson.

DEATHS: SODEN
Joseph E. Soden, 85, of Robinson, Kansas died Thursday night March 25, 1971, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital where he had been readmitted February 24. He was born in Robinson January 7, 1886 and had lived in that community all of his life. He operated steam engines for threshing crews for many years, and in the later years operated a saw mill in and round the Robinson community until January, 1961. He was married to Permelia Cline on March 6, 1913 in Gutherie, Oklahoma. She survives at the Brown County Infirmary. He is also survived by one son, Edward H. Soden, a patient at the VA Hospital in Topeka; two brothers, Albert Soden of Robinson, and Howard Soden of Downs, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Clara Oaks of Atchison, and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at ten o'clock Monday at the Meek Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery - Robinson.

Joseph married Permelia CLINE on 06 Mar 1913 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Permelia was born on 10 May 1885 in Kelley, Kansas. She died on 18 Jul 1973.

Soden - Mrs. Permelia "Melia" Soden, 88, Robinson, died at the Brown County Infirmary, where she had resided since March of 1971. Mrs. Soden was born at Kelley, Kans., on May 10, 1835, and resided for several years in Oklahoma before returning to Robinson to make her home. She was married to Joseph Soden in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on March 6, 191, and they farmed for many years near Robinson. Hed died in March of 1971. She was also preceded in death by a son, Edward Soden, in April of 1972. Survivors include two sisters-in-law Mrs. Clara Oaks of Atchison and Mrs. Bonnie Soden of Hiawatha; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from the Meek Mortuary Chapel at 10:30 o'clock Friday morning, July 20, with the Rev. Leon Hayen officiating. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson.

DEATHS: Albert Soden, 83, Robinson died Saturday afternoon, October 16, 1971, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital where he had been a patient since October 4. He was born in Robinson on November 26, 1887 and had lived in that community most of his life. For the past 14 years he had served as custodian of the Christian Church in Atchison. Survives include two sons, Louis Soden of Lancaster, and Willard Dayton Soden of Atchison, two daughters, Mrs. W. A. (Blondie) Everson of Robinson, and Mrs. Ruth Rice of Clinton, Okla., one brother Howard Soden of Downs, Kansas, one sister Mrs. Clara Oaks of Atchison, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Meek Mortuary Chapel at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon October 18 with the Rev. Harold Wolf officiating. Internment was at Rose Hill cemetery of Robinson.

Albert married Jessie Ione MCKEE on 24 Dec 1910. Jessie died on 05 Jun 1958.

DEATHS: VanLiew - Mrs. Nettie VanLiew, 80, a long residence of Atchison, Kansas, died late Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 1970 at an Atchison hospital. Mrs. VanLiew was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Wayne Schletzbaum of Atchison, a son Ralph VanLiew of Long Beach, Calif., a sister Mrs. Frank Oaks of Atchison; three brothers Joseph Soden of Robinson, Albert Soden of Lancaster and Howard Soden of Downs, Kansas.; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at the Stanton Mortuary, Atchison.

Nettie married Earl VANLIEW on 16 Aug 1910 in Atchison, Atchison County, Kansas. Earl was born on 16 Aug 1888. He died on 23 Jan 1955 in Atchison, Atchison County, Kansas.

Farewell Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Soden and family entertained with a farewell dinner Sunday for their son Frankie who left for the U.S. Army Oct. 5. Also the birthdays of Marion and Robert Soden and Robert A. Keeney, the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Keeney of Willis, who is home on a 7-day leave from the U.S. Navy. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Soden and Dayton; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Van Liew of Atchison, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Oaks; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Soden and family of Salem, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Soden; P.F.C. Edward Soden who is home on furlo from Ft. Knox, Ky; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Schletzbaum and John Wayne of Atchison; Mrs. Will Everson and Pauline; Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hedrick and Deanna Kay, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Keeney and family of Willis; Robert A. Keeney of U. S. Hiawatha Daily World October 1944
Charles Soden, accidentally killed Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
He was working with the Brown County Bridge crew near the Kansas - Nebraska State line - 1 mile north - 2 1/2 miles east of District #33 School a steal crane, mounted on a truck, fell on his head, knocking him to the ground. Force, weight of a heavy blow broke his back, fractured a number of bones in his body. His death came as a result of serve shock, cerebral hemorrhage.
Pearl Bruning, Robinson, Glenn Bartley, Hiawatha, and Ray Jimeson, Reserve were working with Mr. Soden at the time of the accident. The Bridge is county and township project.
Following the accident, Mr. Soden was taken to a farm home nearby where he died 1 1/2 hours later. Mr. Soden was too seriously injured to attempt to remove him to the hospital.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, 5 sones, PFC. Frank E. of the US Army, stationed in Washington St., Marion C. of Robinson, Robert, Duane, and Gerald all of the home at Robinson. Four daughters, Ruby who is employed at defense plant in Kansas City, Mo., Opal who is employed at Spaldings Pharmacy in Hiawatha, Eldamae and June of the home.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 20, at 2:30 p.m. at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Robinson. Rev. C. Shappel officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson, Kansas.

Charles married Bonnie Mae REED on 13 Nov 1919. Bonnie was born on 05 May 1901 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She died on 21 Oct 1996 in Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas. Bonnie was employed as in housewife.

Bonnie M. Soden, 95, of Hiawatha died early Monday morning, Oct. 21, 1996 at the Oak Ridge Acres Nursing Home. She was born May 5, 1901 in Guthrie, Okla., the daughter of William and Jesse Cline Reed.
She was a member of the Robinson axillaries to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Robinson.
Bonnie was married to Charles Soden on Nov. 13, 1919 in Atchison. He preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1944. She was also preceded in death by a son, Marion Soden on June 5, 1976 and a grandson Mike Widman on Oct. 12, 1985.
Survivors include four sons, Frank Soden , Pasco, Wash., Robert Soden, Duane Soden, and Gerald Soden, all of Hiawatha; five daughters, Ruby Selman of Hiawatha, Opal Byers and Eldamae Widman, both of Lampe, Mo., June Beck, Bartlett, Ill., and Charlotte Hageman of Hiawatha; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marion (Gertie) Soden, Robinson; two sisters, Mildred Watts and Mrs. Kenneth (Eldora) Hedrick, both of Hiawatha; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren , as well as many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services are planned for Wednesday, Oct. 23, p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson, burial to follow services.
Mrs. Soden will lie in state Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Framke Casselman Meek Funeral Home, Hiawatha, where family and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Bonnie Soden Memorial fund that will be designated later by the family.

FUNERALS: Bonnie M. Soden
Graveside funeral services form Bonnie M. Soden, 95, of Hiawatha were held at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996. The Rev. Bob Whitaker, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church of Hiawatha, officiated at the services.
Serving as casketbearers were family members, Greg Soden, Jim Soden, John Byers, Ronald Widman, David Soden, Mike Soden, Chad Soden and Bob Beck. Interment followed the service.
Due to inclement weather Tuesday evening, Oct. 22, family visitation was held Wednesday morning, at the Framke Casselman Meek Funeral Home.
Prior to the service, lunch was provided in Fellowship Hall by the ladies of the Bethany United Church of Christ.

George Henry Soden, son of Burritt and Lucinda "Cinday" (Reed) Soden was born December 14, 1901 at Robinson, Brown County, Kansas. George spent all his life in Brown County, Kansas. He attended school at Meadow Brook School District #3 from 1909 - 1917. George had 5 brothers (Joseph, Albert, Charles, William Mark, and Howard) and 2 sisters (Nettie and Clara Mae).
While growing up, George helped with the family farm, threshing and at the Soden Saw Mill. George attend Meadow Brook School District #3 from 1910 thru 1917. (the Meadow Brook School house is now the home of Moses and Cecil Walters in Robinson, Kansas.) He married Lola Grace Bland, daughter of Anvern Mack and Mary Ann (Sanders) Bland, on Friday afternoon, March 21, 1921. They were married by Probate Judge Ham in Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas. They lived with George's parents when they were first married. To this union 5 children were born, Virginia Mae, Elva Irene,Oma Grace, Barbara Ann and George William. George worked for various farmers in the community to support his family. At the time of his death, he was employed by W. C. Oltjen of Leona, Kansas and had worked for "Bill" for the past 21 years.

SODEN - George Henry Soden, 66, of Leona, Kansas, died Friday, June 16, 1967, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital following a long illness. He was born in Robinson and had lived in Brown County all of his life. He worked for W. C. Oltjen the last 21 years on a farm near Leona. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Virginia) Schaeffer of Willis; Mrs. Charles (Eva) Cress of Bendena; Miss Oma Soden with whom he made his home; and Mrs Bernard (Barabara) Linck of Everest; one son, George W. Soden of Robinson; three brothers, Joe Soden of Robinson, Albert Soden of Lancaster; and Howard Soden of Leona; two sisters, Nettie VanLiew and Mrs. Clara Oaks, both of Atchison; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Meek Mortuary Chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Clyde Mosher and Rev. David Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill cemetery at Robinson.

Funeral services for George H. Soden were held at the Meek Mortuary Chapel at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, June 19 with the Rev. Clyde Mosher and the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Mrs. Byron Compton sang "How Great Thou Art" and " The Lord's Prayer" accompanied by Mrs. Clyde Mosher at the organ. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Oltjen and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Geiger assisted with the floral arrangement. Pallbears were Gayle Neely, Harlan Oltjen, Wilbur Geiger, Gerald Soden, Marion Soden and D. Duane Soden. Interment was at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson.

George married 1 Lola Grace BLAND, daughter of Anvern Mack BLAND and Mary Ann SANDERS, on 11 Mar 1921 in Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas. Lola was born 2 on 27 May 1900 in Linn Creek, Missouri. She died 3 on 14 Dec 1962 in Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas. Lola 4 on 10 Mar 1961 Surprise 40th Wedding Anniversary Party. She resided in Leona, Kansas. She was employed as in housewife.

Funeral services for Mrs. George Soden, Sr were held at Meek's Chapel Sunday afternoon, December 16, 1962 at 2 o'clock by Rev. Richard K Brook and Rev Glenn D Babbs. Oscar Anderson, accompanied by Mrs. Billy Oltjen, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Pallbears were Gale Neely, Theadore Neely, Lester Bland, Marion Soden, Dean Walters and Dayton Soden. Assisting with the flowers were Mr Mrs. W.C. Oltjen and Mrs. Dean Walters, interment was at the Rose Hill Cemetery at Robinson.
