"Soden Boy Shot; Dies of Lockjaw" - One fatal Fourth of July accident is reported to have occurred in Wayne county. Willard Soden, aged about 12 years, of Rock Lake, formerly Taners Falls, was injured by the explosion of a blank cartridge on Independence Day at which time a portion of the wadding entered his hand. The boy did not see a physician until Tuesday, July 9th, when the member caused him considerable pain and in the evening he was brought to the office of Dr. Nielsen at Honesdale. He at once observed that lockjaw had set in and the lad could open his mouth but a little. The physician advised that the youth be taken immediately to the State hospital in Scranton where he died about noon the following day.
