Surname List

Caledonia State Park, PA

I have located my Alexander ancestors in Washington, Franklin County, Pennsylvania in 1830. The family headed west to Ironton, Ohio ten years later. John Y. Alexander and wife, Elizabeth Ann Hayes, along with some of their children moved onto Beatrice, Nebraska in 1858. Elizabeth died the following year.

White Cliffs of Dover

My Morgan ancestors came from Wales, originally, and emigrated to the United States, possibly western Pennsylvania, from England.

I have just started working on my Stiles and Inness lines. The Stiles lived in Newark, New Jersey, but were originally from Holland. That is all I have on that line, so far.

William Penn on Philadelphia City Hall

Members of my Morris line came to Philadelphia from Newfoundland, Canada. James Morris' wife, Margerette Mc Manus, and her family arrived in Newfoundland courtesy of a shipwreck on their way from Scotland to the United States. Margaret was born in Scotland, but both of her parents were born in Ireland.

My Heacock ancestors, John Heacock and Ann Till Heacock, came from England with William Penn in 1711 on the Three Sisters and settled in Upland, now Chester, Pennsylvania. They originated in the town of Slindon in the parish of Eccleshall, County of Staffordshire, England. I have traced this family back to John Heycoke who was born in 1490 in Eccleshall parish. The Heacock line also took me back to John Howard, Duke Of Norfolk who was born in 1419 in Stoke Neyland, Suffolk and his wife, Catherine Moleyns, born 1424 in Buckinghamshire. Also in this family tree are Sir Frederick Tilney, born 1416 in Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk and his wife, Elizabeth Cheney, born in 1422 in Cambridgeshire.

My Thompson, Harmon, Englebert and Wolf ancestors lived in Hunterstown, Pennsylvania (near Gettysburg). The Engleberts and Wolfs emigrated from Germany.William Thompson emigrated from England and joined the Army of the Potomac at the beginning of the American Civil War. He was wounded during Pickett's/Pettigrew's Charge at Gettysburg.

PA Monument, Gettysburg

While recuperating, he met Margaret Slonaker. Afterwards, he joined the 17th PA. Calvary. He fought until the end of the war and then came back to Gettysburg and married Margaret.

From records and recollections I have seen, Forest ("Hall")Thompson was not William Thompson's son. But, I can find no records to show who Hall's father was.

Hall and his wife, Lizzie Harmon, made "Hunterstown Rockers" (rocking chairs) in their home in Hunterstown. These rockers became quite famous and they received orders from all over the world.
