Charles H. Austen

Charles H. Austen, 75 years old, a veteran of the Civil War and an employee of the Sauquoit Mill, Capron, died suddenly at his home, 14 Amy avenue, about 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning. He had been in poor health, but heart trouble brought the end unexpectantly. Mr. Austen was born in England and after coming to America 68 years ago, resided first near Vernon Center and for 20 years at Clinton, moving to this city about a year ago. He was a member of the St. James Church, Clinton; Oneida Lodge, No. 270, F. & A.M. of Oneida and for several years was commander of Hinckley Post, G.A.R., Clinton. Mr. Austen served with the Fourteenth Artillery in the Civil War and had been a prisoner of the enemy at Danville and Petersburg, Va. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frances Bevan of this city, and one grandson.
