~ IN MEMORY OF ~

Eliza (McDowell) Sutton*

Eliza (McDowell) Sutton's tombstone is located in the abandoned, overgrown cemetery called Old Persimmon Creek Cemetery where a Baptist church once stood. The cemetery is located in the wilderness of Cherokee National Forest, Cherokee CO, NC, several miles off State Road #294. I have never seen a photo of the church, long since gone. Steve photographed the tombstone, and we recorded all others found there in March 1994.
