~ photo by Stephen Ratledge ~This church was remodeled decades ago so that it no longer resembles this beautiful old photo. My husband took this while standing on the trail leading to the church cemetery located on a small knoll above the church. A view of the old church with this exact perspective is now impossible because timber was cut and land removed. This photo was copyrighted, printed, and published in our book called Appalachian Ancestors. This cemetery is the burial site of my husband's Stiles ancestors, Thomas & Louisa (Smith) Stiles as well as many other relatives. Locally, Bear Paw Community is known as "God's Country" and aptly so for such scenic landscapes.
