[NOTE: More than thirty years ago my husband and I purchased Stephen Goins's military records from the National Archives in Washington, D.C. After painstaking research, I transcribed his records and wrote the following history which was stolen from this website by "Find a Grave's" Bev (#46619248) and uploaded illegally by her on "Find a Grave." She also stole his copyrighted picture above and posted on "Find a Grave" until officially reported after totally ignoring many requests for removal. Even after removal of the photo by "Find a Grave" officials, she stole the content data below and posted it on that page with a flag icon. Any pictures, data, or contents of this website posted anywhere on "Find a Grave" has also been stolen. See copyright notice posted above and at the bottom of every page on my website.]

VITAL STATS
residence: Mt Verd PO, Regret PO, Zeigler's PO, Niota PO, McMinn CO, TN
He filed pension claim 23 Mar 1891. Pension was granted at $8 per mo. from date of filing until 4 Dec 1891 when amount was increased to $10 per mo. Last increase was 5 July 1905 and changed to $12 per mo. Widow's pension claims were filed, but she was denied because she married soldier after 27 Jun 1890, a deadline. Each of their three minor children were granted pensions until their sixteenth birthdays. George Renegar, general store owner in the Clearwater Community of Mt Verd PO, was appointed guardian.

Soldier's name was actually Stephen A. (Alexander) Goins and probably the initial was misunderstood by muster-in agent.
