Hugh Norman DOUGLAS  ( Robert George , Robert )
Hugh was born on Monday 12th August 1889 in Thebarton, Adelaide, South Australia.
Hugh was 9th of  11 children , 8 boys and 3 girls for  Eliza Hannah BROMLEY and Robert George DOUGLAS. ~s02

Eliza Hannah was aged 38 years and Robert George was aged 49 years.
Hugh's siblings were Alice Maude WOODS (b1871) , Alexander George (b1873) , Frederick Arthur (b1876) ,
Albert Edward (b1878) , Archie William (b1880) , Bertha Elizabeth KELLY (b1882) , Harry Robert (b1885) ,
Ethel Hannah BARRINGTON (b1887) , Wallace Gordon (b1892) and Tom Edgar (b1895).

Hugh was employed in the Laborer Dept, BHP Mine, Broken Hill, from 20 Dec 1911 till 7 Feb 1912.
He was worked as an underground trucker in the BHP Mine, Broken Hill, from 9 Jun 1914 till 22 Aug 1914.

Hugh Norman DOUGLAS volunteered for service with the Australian Imperial Forces (AIF) in World War 1.
Hugh's service records show that he :

Hugh Norman DOUGLAS was a Private with the 4th Field Ambulance.  His Regimental Number was 4721.
Hugh served with the AIF during WW1 for 4 years 95 days, including 4 years 42 days service abroad. Hugh was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.


Constance was born on Sunday 22nd September 1889 in Adelaide, South Australia.
Constance was the 7th of  16 children, 6 boys and 10 girls for  Elizabeth HAYWARD and Robert Sanders CALDICOTT. ~s02

Elizabeth was aged 30 years and Robert was aged 30 years.
Constance's siblings were Robert Hayward (b1880) , William Henry (b1881) , Leonard Ernest (b1883) ,
Ruby Alice (b1885) , Pearl Daisy (b1886) , Elsie May (b1888) , Myrtle (b1889) ,
Clive James (b1892) , Earle Sanders (b1893) , Merle Gladys (b1895) , Robert Hayward (b1896) ,
Elizabeth (b1898) , Daphne Maisie (b1899) , Caroline Gwendalyn (b1900) and Victoria Eileen (b1902).
Constance and Myrtle were twins.

Constance DOUGLAS

Hugh Norman DOUGLAS married Constance CALDICOTT
on 22 May 1920
in Adelaide, South Australia.

Hugh and Constance were married in the Church of Christ Chapel.
Hugh was single and aged 30 years.  Constance was single and aged 30 years.

Connie and Hugh raised 2 of Hugh's nephews :
Colin Norman DOUGLAS-
Albert Stuart DOUGLAS-

Hugh was a postie on North Terrace from King Wiliam St to Pultney St, Aug 1919 - 1936.

Hugh and Connie operated the Post Office and General Store in Coromandel Valley for several years.
In later years, Hugh was confined to a wheelchair.

Hugh Norman DOUGLAS  died on 7th December 1950 in Coromandel Valley, South Australia.  Hugh was aged 61 years.
Hugh was buried on 9th December 1950 in West Terrace Cemetery, with his fellow servicemen in Kendrew Oval, row 5, grave 38.

Constance DOUGLAS nee CALDICOTT  died on 1st March 1970 in Woodville Hospital, Adelaide, South Australia.
Constance was cremated and her remains are buried in Centennial Park Cemetery.  Constance was aged 81 years.
