While these courts handled the probate for most of the West Riding including Sheffield and part of York city and suburbs, there were others. If your ancestor was a beneficed clergyman then his will would probably have been proved in the Chancery court of the Archdeacon of York. There were also Peculiar courts that dealt with the wills for particular parishes, Handsworth, Laughton-en-le-Morthen and Harthill (all near Sheffield), for instance.
