Last year, I stumbled upon Fountain Tinsley Foster by way of Karen Jarvis who lives in Davis, County, Iowa. Karen L. Jarvis E-mail Address: karenj@kdsi.net
She has it that Fountain's father was named Isaac and that he married Elizabeth Simpson. When I ask her for the basis for this connection, she can't remember or find the supporting document. My only course is to treat this as questionable, with due respect to Karen. Until this can be supported with some kind of documentation, I can't link Fountain to his father. I can only suspect.
Thanks to Karen's work, this is the best lead we have. You can understand the situtation.
Now, back to the 1850 Mo census; I knew that there were 2 Fosters in Schuyler County MO in 1850. I have the census page for Fountain Tinsley Foster and his family. The other Foster was, interestingly, named Isaac and that's all I knew.
Over the Christmas holidays, I was determined to find out if this Isaac had a wife named Elizabeth leaning heavily on Karen's suggestion. Yep. He's 56, a minister (I have suspected that Isaac would be a minister, don't ask why) shown as being born in SC, she's 55 shown as being born in KY, and hold on to yourself, their daughter's name is Jane, who is 17 shown as being born in KY. That's it too; no more members. This makes the theory that Fountain was born into a family of girls just that much more seductive. There's more;
On January 2, 1853, Fountain Tinsley Foster died, cause unknown. He was only 38 years old. The State of Missouri, in their efforts to determine his estate and property value had appointed an Isaac Foster to be executor. He had determined that the heirs of Fountain are Amanda M. Foster, I.W. Foster, Alonzo Foster, Elizabeth J. Foster, L.Foster (?) and Zelica Foster. The document is not titled; it is a free- hand description written by county agents stating the fact that Fountain had died without a will. The document is signed by Isaac Foster, with an adult hand. Could this be further evidence that Fountain's father's name was Isaac? Fountain's son, Isaac William Foster, was 11 years old at this time.
If Jane married Foglesong in Jan. 1851, she would be about 18. Not out of the question at all.
