John Donaldson: He came from the Cumberland Valley of Scotch-Irish stock and settled near Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Jack and moved to Kentucky. There he was a "comrade in arms" of Daniel Boone.45 He was a soldier throughout the American Revolution. According to the J. V. Thompson papers Vol. 11 page 270 William Thompson was a scout for General Washington during the Revolution. According to the National Archives, B. L. Wt. 2202-200 is the number referred to as compensation for    service in the Revolution. A single sheet of paper said that Lt. William Thompson's land etc was on 7 April 1795 was issued to John Nicholson, assignee. "No papers" were present.

Mary Jack [Parents] was born 1755 in South Huntington, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. She died 1830. Mary married Capt William Thompson in Big Spring Church, Cumberland, Pennsylvania.

John Jack's Revolutionary War Services were as follows: "John Jack served as a Ranger on the frontier from 1778 to 1783 in Westmoreland Co., Penna. under Captain Andrew Swearington. referance: Pennsylvania Archives, Series III, Vol. XXII, page 312. Compare this list of Rangers with the taxables of Huntington Township in 1783, Pennsylvania Archives, Series III, Vol. XXII, Pages 408 to 419. It will be seen that Major David Vance, Adj. Thomas Mason and others were Rangers in this company and taxable in Huntington County." Lists his rank as private. DAR application verified by national number 186084 add 271. 6th Company. 4th Battalion, Cumberland Co., PA 24 Oct 1782 Lt. Col. Samuel Culbertson. He was prominent with others in his family in drafting and uttering the Hannastown Declaration of Independence in 1775.126 page 350 According the Volume 4 of the J. V. Thompson book John Jack came to Westmoreland County from Franklin County in 1772, and he and his wife are buried on the Rothermel Farm near West Newton, Pennsylvania.

DEATH:  the following from Publications of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, Vol. V:3, p. 338, "Abstracts of Wills of Westmoreland County, " Will Book I, p 46: John JACK, Yeoman, Huntington Twp., dated 2 Aug 1806, proved 23 Apr 1808 - wife Elinor; Children - Patrick, Anna ROBERTSON, Elizabeth MACKLIN [MARKLE] and Rebecca. JACK. Grandsons John CLARK, Andrew THOMSON and John FINLEY; Sons-in-law- Andrew FINLEY, John ROBINSON, and John MACKLIN. Son Thomas S. JACK and other children not named; Andrew FINLEY and John ROBERTSON Executors, Witness, John CARNAHAN and Charles HUNTER. Patricia Lowry gives his place of death as Westmoreland Co., PA.

Eleanor Stevenson was born 1737/1739 in , , Pennsylvania. She died May 1828 in South Huntington, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania and was buried in Rothermel Cemetery, Sewickly, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Eleanor married Capt John Jack on 1752 in , Westmoreland, Pennsylvania.

John Donadson: According to an interview by J. V. Thompson176 of her grandson, David Markle, son of John Markle and Elizabeth Jack, on September 7, 1897 at 6:60 A.M., he asked if David knew his grandmother Jack. "Oh my yes" "She had a cancer on her nose and side of her face." David went on to say he cracked nuts and put them in a sack and washed them for her to eat as she had no teeth. She had an old Kettle. She had brought from the old Country and Harry Markle or Harmar Smith had it at the time. She was Scotch Irish. She was      married when she was 13 or 14 years old. He went on to say she died when he was 8 years old. She died at their house/ She was buried at the Rothamel burying ground as her husband before her had been. She was described as a rather small woman.

   JV Thompson Journals Volume 6: Miss Clara Stevens, aged 76       recollections: Upon telling her that her great great grandfather, Jeremiah Jack had been captured by the Indians when his son John was killed by them on Apr 13, 1757, she said she recalled hearing the elder relatives tell of a party coming to the home of her gg grandmother, Mrs Jack & saying that there was a man across the River (the Potomac) who wanted to see her. Upon her going to the River, the man s'd he wanted to buy the farm. She told him that she could not sell it, that it belonged to her husband who had been carried off by the Indians several years ago & she did not know whether he was     alive or dead. (According to Elizabeth Boyd's record made Jany 31, 1859, he was gone 8 or 9 yrs). He then made himself known, he being Jeremiah Jack & had changed so much that his wife didn't know him.

Anne Swaine died after 1766 in Berkeley, , Virginia. She married Jeremiah Jack on 11 Jul 1724 in First Presb Ch, P, Pennsylvania.
