A 56-year-old Center Valley R.2 man was fatally injured last night when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by his nephew on Taylor Drive in the southeastern section of Upper Saucon Township.
William S. Getz was pronounced dead at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center at 7:13 p.m. Death was attributed to massive head injuries, according to Deputy Lehigh County Coroner Michael Nagel.
Upper Saucon Township police said Getz was walking across the two- lane blacktop road when he was struck by the truck driven by Richard C. Klotz, 27, of Center Valley R. 2. It was raining and the roadway was wet, police said, when the accident happened at 6:27 p.m.
Getz was crossing the road to check his mail box on the opposite side of the road.
Police said Klotz went to the home of Getz's daughter to call the Upper Saucon Township ambulance.
Klotz told police he saw a subject in the middle of the roadway and he hit his brakes. He said the next thing he remembered was the subject being pushed to the side of the road by the impact.
Police said Klotz was not exceeding the speed limit when the accident happened and no charges have been filed. They will continue their investigation.
