Katie joined religion in Lutheran. She was employed as in homemaker.

According to my interview with Naomi (GERWIN) FAUSEY, Fall 1993, and a conversation with Loise OBERHOMMERT (1998):
Katie SLOYER served as a substitute teacher in one room schoolhouses at some time before her marriage. The law was if the eighth grade was completed and a state test was passed, a person was qualified to be a substitute teacher.

According to her Death Certificate Catherine GERWIN died from a cerebral hemorrhage with a contributing factor of arteriosclerosis.

The funeral of Mrs. Charles W. Gerwin (Catherine Sloyer), 73, of R-1, Gibsonburg, a native of Bradner, will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Veh & Son Funeral Home, Gibsonburg.
Mrs. Gerwin died Wednesday afternoon in Memorial Hospital, Fremont. She was admitted Tuesday and had been ill for two weeks. Mrs. Gerwin was born Aug. 31, 1885 to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sloyer (Catherine) Sloyer, and was married to Mr. Gerwin in Bowling Green on Sept. 28, 1904, and he survives.
The Rev. Richard Bauerle, of the Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg, will officiate at the funeral, with burial in West Union Cemetery.
She is also survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lenore Oberhommert, of Gibsonburg; Mrs. Naomi Fausey, of Helena; Mrs. Rhea Stephens, of Port Clinton; and Mrs. Helen Jackson, of Toledo; a son, Carl Gerwin, of Fremont; a sister, Mrs. Laura Harpster, of Bradner; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One son died earlier.

*** NOTE: There are two comments about this obituary. One, while my grandmother used the name Catherine, she has been otherwise documented as Katie. Her daughter, Naomi Gerwin Fausey told me in 1993, that she didn't like having a formal name so she insisted on using Catherine in her obituary and her gravestone. Two, the obituary contains a mistake concerning her mother's name. Her mother was Lenora Sloyer, Catherine was her paternal grandmother's name.

Obituary from the FREMONT NEWS-MESSENGER, Ohio Oct 30, 1958 (copy provided by Lucile (BALSIZER) GERWIN):

Katie married 1 Charles William GERWIN son of Hermann Heinrich "Herman H." GERWIN Sr. and Christina S. BERLEKAMP on 28 Sep 1904 in Bowling Green, Wood Co., OH. Charles was born 2 on 12 Feb 1881 in Madison Twp., Sandusky Co., OH. He died 3 on 26 Sep 1964 in Memorial Hospital, Fremont, Sandusky Co., OH. He was employed as in farmer.

NOTES FOR CHARLES W. GERWIN from interview with Naomi (GERWIN) FAUSEY, Fall 1993:
Charles bought the farm on Napoleon road, Madison Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, from his father about the time of his marriage in 1904
Charles lived on this farm until his death. He said his father would buy a place, fix it up, and sell it time after time. Charles said he would buy a place and stay put.
Charles and his father, Herman Sr., had a falling out when Charles bought his first Ford car. Charles still owed his father money for the farm, and Herman demanded Charles pay up. Charles was forced to borrow the money owed to his father. They did not speak again, and it is said Herman Sr. left Charles one dollar in his will.
Carl H. GERWIN bought the farm from his father's estate.
Mark BURMEISTER, Carl's grandson, later bought the farm. Mark and Donna torn down the old house, built a new home, and presently reside with there family at that location. This means the land has been owned by a GERWIN descendant for over a hundred years.

ARTHUR BIERLY, FORMER RISING SUN MAN PASSES AWAY IN OKLAHOMA

Word of the death of Arthur Bierly, which occurred recently in Shamrock, Oklahoma, was received here by Charles E. Baker last Thursday. Mrs. Baker being the sister of Mr. Bierly. no particulars accompanied the telegram.

Mr. Bierly was the son of John Bierly of Mansfield, and lived the first twenty years of life here. For the past fifteen years, however, he has resided in Oklahoma working in the oil fields in the midwestern state. Death came to him while he was confined in a hospital where he was taken two months previous.

Mr. Biely was nearly 53 years of age at the time of his demise and besides his widow, he leaves to mourn their loss, four brothers, Emmett, Bert, Asa, and Eber, and the previously mentioned sister, Mrs. Chas. Baker. His father also survives.

Art, as he was familiarly know to a host of aquaintances in this vicinity, was a likeable chap of a very cheerful disposition, and made friends of all with whom he came in contact. The news of his death brought sadness to those who remember Art.
