My grandfather, John Joseph Hourihane, was born 9-Jan-1872 to Catherine Sullivan and William Hourihane, recorded as married Feb-1872 in Caheragh. They had seven more children: Margaret (1873), Mary (1875), Cornelius (1877), Ellen (1879), Kate (1882), Patrick (1886) and Hanora (1889). All but Kate came to America and resided in Worcester County in Massachusetts. Patrick eventually returned to Ireland.

William was born around 1835, and died some time between 1911 and 1915 as Catherine came over to America, listed as a widow. William and Catherine were in Killeenleigh in the 1911 census. When their son John came to the US, he was called John Hourihan. John came to Boston, MA between 1891 and 1899, and died 9-Jan-1943.

Family lore says that four Sullivans married four Hourihanes. Catherine and her three sisters each married men named Hourihane. The marriage record of William and Catherine says that William was a servant residing in Clooncugger and that his father's name was Cornelius. Only one online church record in the Caheragh-Drimoleague area for a William who was the son of a Cornelius Hourihane can be found; a Drimoleague record in 1833, with mother Mary Hennessy.
