Transcription: Pleasant Grove Man Killed in Tractor Accident at Farm T. W. Fenton Meets Death in Accident Log Chain Breaks To Tip Tractor Over Into Wash
Crushed beneath a tractor he was operating, Thomas Walker Fenton, Jr. 26, of Pleasant Grove, was killed instantly at 11:30 a.m. today while working on the H. W. Jacobs farm in Manila. Mr. Fenton was dragging a heavy log along the bottom of a six-foot deep wash, the tractor travelling along the edge, when the accident occurred, according to J.J. Mercer, deputy sherriff who investigated. The heavy log struck another heavy object in the wash and the chain broke, causing the tractor to lunge forward and tip over into the wash, comming to rest with the wheels up, Mr. Mercer said. Mr. Fenton, pinned beneath the machine, died instantly, his chest crushed. The accident was witnessed by two fellow workers: Keith Jacobs and George Lim. The trio had been pulling orchard trees and placing them in the wash, which was to be covered over and farmed, according to Mr. Mercer. The tree being dragged at the time of the mishap was a large poplar which had stood near the orchard. Mr. Fenton was a son of Thomas Fenton Sr. and the late Ethel Walker Fenton. He is survived by his father, his wife, Beth Kirk Fenton, three children: Darrel 7; Thomas 5; and Samuel 1, and brothers and sisters. The body was taken to the Olpin Mortuary. Assisting Mr. Mercer in the investigation were Arthur Winters, deputy sheriff, and Golden Peay, Pleasant Grove city marshal. The officers reported that the death would not be charged to the county's traffic fatality record, since the accident occurred on a privately owned farm and not on a public road.

Mrs. Markham had been an active worker in the organizations of the L. D. S. church until her health failed. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Mary Chadwick and George Hhamhar, Ontario. Ore.; Mrs. John L. Larsen, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Leroy Carol, Vernal; Mrs. Ora Hamblin, Lyman Wyo.; Joseph Markham, Spanish Fork; Bishop S. D. Markham, Effie and Veronica Markham, Leland. Editor's Comments About Entry: The spelling of MARKHAM, George Reynolds's name in the list of surviving children was the correct transcription. I believe that an error was made by the newspaper. I think the word "Hhamhar" is simply a gross hashing of the name "Markham."
