     SOPHIE MARIE JENSEN JOHNSON

Sophie Marie Jensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark 7 December 1870. She was the daughter of Carl Harold Lauritz Jensen and Helbertine Rasmussen Nielsen Love. She came to Utah with her parents when five years of age. The family settled in Cache Valley and took part in the Pioneering projects of that day.
She married Oley M. Johnson 25 September 1889 in the Salt Lake Temple. She is the mother of nine children - six sons and three daughters.
She was a member and visiting teacher in Relief Societies in the Fifteenth Ward - Salt Lake City, Utah, the Seventh Ward - Logan., Utah and the Third and Ninth Wards - Bountiful, Utah.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and on September 15, 1927 she was set apart as President of the William B. Preston Camp in Logan, Utah. She held this position for two years.
She was a War Mother and during the "Flu" epidemic - first World War - she went from home to home nursing the sick and helping care for the dead. She became a practical nurse and carried on in that capacity until after the Second World War.
Her husband died 18 June 1935. Some years later she married John H. Rosengreen. He died in 1951.
She did a great deal of crocheting and needle work, and won prizes and ribbons at State and County Fairs. When she was eighty four years old she won first place for crocheted edges on handkerchiefs, second place for embroidered pillow cases and third place for crochet hot pads at the Davis County Fair in Bountiful, Utah. She enjoyed quilt making and quilting. Beautiful patterns and new designs were always a delight to her. She liked to work out new designs in any kind of crochet, knitting, embrodery and quilt work.
