There is not much left of the villiage anymore. Since all of the mining jobs disappeared, people have moved out. Travelling south from Polmont, the road takes you through California, and just after leaving the south side of California is where the old town of Blackbraes sat. It is not marked with any road signs, so you can drive right past it without even knowing. The whole villiage consists of a "Pub", the old Blackbraes school, and about three or four residences scattered about along the road. We talked to a couple of residents and they showed us more detailed maps that did show the town. This picture is taken along the main road looking north. The white building on the left hand side is the "Pub." In the parking lot of the "Pub", which sits on the north side of the building, the Blackbraes Town Hall stood. This is where they had their Saturday night dances. The old miner's cottages stood just beyond where the "Pub" now sits at the bottom of the slight hill.
