            BLOUNTVILLE - Hubert Ray Beverly Jr., 45, passed away accidentally 
            Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at his home due to a mobile home fire.

            KINGSPORT - Mr. Audley Byrd, 87, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Monday 
            (Dec. 24, 2001) at the Hillside Manor Health Care Center after a 
            period of declining health.

            Frances Tyree Copas, 78, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Frances Louise Tyree Copas, 78, 1420 Garden Drive, was 
            DOA Sunday afternoon (Dec. 23, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical 
            Center. 
            Born in Washington County, Tenn. (Gray), she lived in Kingsport for 
            over 50 years. 
            She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. 
            She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Copas; parents, James A. 
            Tyree and Mary Belle Rhea Tyree; brother, James A. Tyree Jr.; and 
            sister, Dorothy Jarrells. 
               
            Surviving are her husband, Thomas Copas, of the home; one son and 
            daughter-in-law, the Rev. Kyle Copas and wife, Mae, Apex, N.C.; 
            three grandchildren, Timothy Copas and wife, Mary, Jonathan Copas 
            and wife, April, and Sharon Copas Holder and husband, Boyd; four 
            great-grandchildren; one brother, Earnest M. Tyree and wife, 
            Dorothy, Nashville; and several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Temple Baptist Church. 
            Friends may call at any time at the residence, 1420 Garden Drive. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the church with Pastor 
            Bobby Russell officiating. 
            Music will be provided by the grandchildren. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at East 
            Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends who attend the graveside 
            service should meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m. Thursday.

            KINGSPORT - Memorial services for Christopher Andrew Gibson, 35, 349 
            Hidden Valley Rd., who died unexpectedly Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) will 
            be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Colonial Heights Presbyterian 
            Church with the Rev. Tully Hunter officiating. 
            The family will receive friends following the memorial service at 
            the church. 
            There will be a private family graveside service at a later date.

            Margaret M. Goforth, 69, Erwin.

            ERWIN - Margaret Marie Flanary Goforth, 69, 743 N. Elm Ave., 
            formerly of Jonesborough, went to be with her Lord (Dec. 22, 2001) 
            at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. 
            A native of Kingsport, Margaret was born Feb. 22, 1932, a daughter 
            of the late T.E. and Lora (Edwards) Rogers. She was a member of the 
            Hope of Glory Church. 
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first 
            husband, Edward P. Flanary; a daughter, Loretta; a sister, Joan 
            Conant; and a brother, Jess Rogers. 
            Margaret is survived by her husband, James A. Goforth, Erwin; one 
            daughter, Teresa Price, Kingsport; five sons, Eddie Flanary, Gary 
            Flanary, Dexter Flanary, Scottie Flanary, all of Jonesborough, and 
            Roger Flanary, Kingsport; nine grandchildren and seven 
            great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Betty Horton; stepsons, James and 
            John Goforth; three stepgrandchildren; sisters, Ruby Long, Helen 
            Clark, Lois Chapman, Lorene Mullins, Jenny Kinsler and Dorothy Lane; 
            brothers, David Rogers, Orville Rogers, Frank Rogers and Harvey 
            Rogers; several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 2 to 3 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home. 
            Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Ferrell Peterson and Pastor Michael Barrett 
            officiating. Her grandson, Kevin Flanary, will also take part in the 
            service. 
            Burial and graveside services will follow in the Garden of Prayer in 
            the East Lawn Memorial Park. 
            Family will serve as pallbearers. 

            Vina Ellen Grey, 90, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Vina Ellen Culbertson Grey, 90, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 
            2001) at the Wellmont Hospice House after a lengthy illness.

            Frankie Hicks, 68, Gate City, Va.

            GATE CITY, Va. - Services for Frankie Hicks, 68, Route 1, who 
            entered into rest Monday afternoon (Dec. 24, 2001), will be 
            conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of 
            the Gate City Funeral Home with Dr. Roc Collins officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

            KINGSPORT - Services for Fred Henderson Hilton, 80, who passed away 
            Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001), will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at 
            Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, with the Rev. Paul Blessing 
            and the Rev. F.M. Bays officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, or 
            anytime at the home of his son, Fred Hilton Jr., 1400 Hickory Lane, 
            Mount Carmel. 
            Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holston View 
            Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

            Thursday afternoon (Dec. 20, 2001), will be conducted at 7 p.m. 
            today at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Calvert officiating. 

            Calling hours are from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the church. 
            Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the V.A. National Cemetery 
            in Mountain Home, Tenn.

            Eugene Eckle Manis, 61, Rogersville.

            ROGERSVILLE - Services for Pastor Eugene Eckle Manis, 61, who passed 
            away Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in 
            the chapel of Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, with the Rev. 
            Larry Manis, the Rev. Bob Simpson and the Rev. Bobby Bentley 
            officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Thursday at Kirkpatrick 
            Cemetery. 

            Geneva McMurray, 80, Kingsport.
               
            Services for Geneva Baker Calton McMurray, 80, Kingsport, who went 
            home to be with the Lord Monday (Dec. 24, 2001), will be conducted 
            at 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Scott County Funeral Home, Weber 
            City, Va., by her grandsons, Chris Calton and Scott Fields. 
            Music will be provided by Mary Anderson and the Edens Family. 
            Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home or 
            anytime at the home of Truman and Stella Calton in Yuma, Va. 
            Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Prospect Church Cemetery in 
            Yuma, Va. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go 
            to the cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be grandsons. 

            David Kevin Perry, 38, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - David Kevin Perry, 38, died unexpectedly of an apparent 
            heart attack at 1 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) in Hobart, 
            Australia. 
            Born in Sullivan County (Kingsport), he attended Kingsley Elementary 
            and Ketron Middle School and graduated from Gospel Assembly 
            Christian Academy. 
            He was employed by the Princess Cruise Lines, and was a member of 
            Mercy Seat Ministries. 
            He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Perry; and maternal 
            grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Carl Voorhees; paternal grandfather, 
            Samuel Perry. 
               
            Survivors include his mother, Ramona Jean Reaves Perry, Kingsport; 
            one sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca Michelle Perry Luke and 
            husband, Uday, Kingsport; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael 
            Benjamin Perry and wife, Regina, Kingsport; one nephew, Jordan 
            Samuel Clark Luke, Kingsport; paternal grandmother, Nell Grissom 
            Perry. 
            Friends may call anytime at the residence of his uncle and aunt, 
            Amon and Donna Shuecraft, 3243 Brownlow Road.

            Maudie B. Peters, 80, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Maudie Belle Calhoun Peters, 80, went to be with the 
            Lord Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2001) in the Holston Valley Medical Center 
            after a period of declining health. 
            Maudie was born November 28, 1921 in Scott County, Va., and was a 
            daughter of the late Rev. W.H. Calhoun and Anna (Ketron) Calhoun. 
            She attended the Assembly of God Church in Bloomingdale and was a 
            former secretary and treasurer of the Women's Ministry of the 
            church. 
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, 
            Thomas Brian Archer; brothers, the Rev. Oscar Calhoun and Ernest 
            (Jake) Calhoun; sisters, Ida Ethel Calhoun, Marie Calhoun Jenkins, 
            Shirley Joe Calhoun Head; stepbrothers, Even T. Arnold and Ralph 
            Arnold; and stepsister, Maggie Rhoton. 
            Maudie was a loving wife, mom, grandmother and sister. 
               
            Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Millard C. Peters, of the 
            home, son and daughter-in-law, David C. and Tammy Peters; daughter 
            and son-in-law, Brenna J. (Peters) and Rocky Rhoton; grandsons, 
            Thomas Allen Archer, Byron Archer and Justin Peters; brother, James 
            (Jimbow) Calhoun; half sister, Myrtle Wallen; and several nieces and 
            nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the East Lawn 
            Funeral Home. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Wayne Baker, the Rev. Bob Yates and the Rev. 
            Smith Kestner officiating. 
            Friends will meet for the graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday in the 
            garden of Christus in the East Lawn Memorial Park. 
            Pallbearers will be Byron Archer, Allen Archer, Justin Peters, Rocky

            ROGERSVILLE - Helen L. Phillips passed away Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) 
            at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

            Kenneth L. Raley, 87, Rogersville.
               
            Kenneth L. Raley, 87, of Highway 66 South, Rogersville, died Tuesday 
            (Dec. 25, 2001) at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. 
            Raley was a member of First Baptist Church, Rogersville, and was the 
            owner of Raley Vaughan Motor Co.

            KINGSPORT - Services for Helga Elizabeth Sallee, who passed away

            Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

            Pearl Martin Scales, 93, Lebanon, Va.

            LEBANON, Va. - Pearl Martin Scales, 93, died Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) 
            at the Russell County Medical Center. 
            Born June 25, 1908 in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late 
            Logan and Minnie Day Martin. She was a member of the Lebanon Chapel 
            A.M.E. Zion Church and served on the Stewardess Board and Ministry 
            of Kindness and Deaconess. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Scales; and four 
            sons, John W. Scales, Charles L. Scales, James R. Scales and William 
            B. Scales; one sister, Stella; and two brothers, Jack and Thompson. 
            Survivors include four sons, Harry F. Scales Sr., Mattapan, Mass, 
            Ralph C. Scales, Bristol, Tenn., Jack E. Scales, Landover, Md., and 
            Thomas A. Scales, Lebanon; two daughters, Cleo Alexander, Lebanon, 
            and Charlotte A. Felton, Suffolk, Va.; also, 24 grandchildren and 33 
            great-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Combs Funeral 
            Service in Lebanon. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Charles Leonard and the Rev. Lillie Williams 
            officiating. 
            Burial will follow in the Russell Memorial Cemetery.

            MARION, Va. - Mr. Carol Preston Thompson, 62, died Monday (Dec. 24, 
            2001) in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. 
            Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Hart of Middlesboro, Ky.; two 
            sons, Thomas W. Thompson and Preston S. Thompson, both of 
            Middlesboro, Ky.; five brothers, Archie Thompson, Jerry Thompson, 
            Ray Thompson, Paul Thompson, all of Saltville, Va., and Clarence 
            Thompson, Chilhowie, Va.; five sisters, Connie Kerley, Chilhowie, 
            Va., Beulah Coe, Konnarock, Va., Opal Spears, Kingsport, Eva 
            Davenport and Frances Clark, both of Saltville, Va.; two 
            grandchildren, Thomas Jacob Evans and Preston Gage Evans; several 
            nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at The Solid Rock 
            United Pentecostal Church, and anytime at the home of Connie Kerley, 
            435 Terrace Ave., Chilhowie, Va. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the
