If you have any information about the following individuals, please EMAIL me. I would love to find out anything further on these folks!WILLIAM CHAPMAN was born ca. 1800 in TN or NC. He died December 15, 1848 in Franklin County, Indiana. William married Lydia Price on June 12, 1818 in Franklin County, Indiana. Lydia is the daughter of James and Nancy Price from Kent County, Delaware.
William’s parents are thought to be Enoch Chapman and Mary Barnet from Wilkes County, NC. Although this has not yet been proven.
Enoch is the son of John and Eurith Chapman. John Chapman was born ca 1720 in MD. John died ca 1780/81 at the age of 60. in N.C. By 1760 John had married
Eurith Barnes who was born in 1722. (This information obtained from other researchers).Through census, tax, military and court records you can trace the Fortner, Spradling and Chapman families traveling together from Wilkes County, NC after 1800, through Grainger County, TN in 1805, and on to Franklin County, IN by 1815.
Also through historical records, you find Enoch, John and William within Whitewater Township (later Highland Twp) in Franklin County. Unfortunately, William died before the 1850 census, so there is no known record of his place of birth. But John Chapman listed NC as his place of birth in 1850. Two of William’s children listed his birthplace as TN on their 1880 census entries, although NC would be possible too.
The last known record that mentioned Enoch Chapman is the 1830 census for Franklin County, Indiana. There has yet to be a will, probate or death record found for him.
