• Advertised in the Providence Gazette (Providence RI), 16 Apr 1803, announcing the partnership of PAYTON & NATHAN DANA. ³

• He was a partner from 1803 to 1805 with Nathaniel Dana in Providence RI as PAYTON & NATHAN DANA. ³

• He worked from 1805 to 1814 as a silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker in Providence RI

• Advertised in the Providence Gazette (Providence RI), 6 Jul 1805, announcing the dissolution of PAYTON & NATHAN DANA; the business continued by Payton Dana at the sign of the Turk's Head. ³

• Advertised in the Providence Gazette (Providence RI), 24 Jan 1807, noting that he continued in business opposite Exchange Bank and offering silver spoons, thimbles, etc. ³

• Master to George Francis Payton abt 1807 in Providence RI. ¹

• He was a partner from 1815 to 1820 with George Francis Dana in Providence RI as PAYTON DANA & SON. ³

• He was a partner from 1820 to 1823 with Joseph Willard Dexter in Pawtucket RI as DANA & DEXTER, with a "shop opposite the brick hotel in Pawtucket where they intend carrying on the clock- and watch, gold- and silversmith's business in all its various branches." ³

• He worked from 1824 to 1851 as a silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker in Providence RI listed in city directories with a shop at 22 Market Street.

Payton married Esther Sweet on 25 Oct 1791 in Providence RI. (Esther Sweet was born on 24 Dec 1770 in Providence RI and died on 29 Oct 1830.)
