• Apprenticed about 1755 to Jeffery Lang in Salem MA 1
• Apprenticed after 1758 to David Griffeth in Portsmouth NH 7
• He worked from 1768 to 1793 as a silversmith in Salem MA 6
• He worked from 1793 to 1810 as a schoolmaster in Salem MA Reverend William Bentley wrote in "June 1793 . . . We then passed to the East School, which had been under Mr. Lang ever since it was opened. It was formerly the fullest school, & has had several assistants . . . Mr. Lang, the Master, is a most worthy man. He was a Silversmith by profession, but reduced in circumstances, he accepted this School, in which he does not succeed to the public wishes. . ." Lang was eventually forced to resign his position. He later worked as a clerk in the Essex Bank. 6
