Silversmith

  Events in his life were:

• Apprenticed from 1763 to 1770 to John Touzell in Salem MA ⁷

• He worked from 1770 to 1787 as a silversmith in Boston MA ⁷

• Master to Stephen Baker 1774-1780 in Boston MA. ⁷

• He worked from 1787 to 1834 as a dry goods merchant in Boston MA
Having decided to change careers, he drew up an agreement lending all his working tools to his second cousin, Ebenezer Bowditch, then just starting on his own. Apparently Hathorne never requested their return and they remained in Bowditch's possession. ⁷

John married Susanna Herbert on 18 Oct 1772 in Salem MA. (Susanna Herbert was born on 7 Feb 1754 in Salem MA and died on 8 Nov 1834.)
