• He was a partner from circa 1795 to 1798 with Andrew Newell in Boston MA as NEWELL & SON.

• He worked from 1798 to 1805 as an instrument maker in Boston MA at his brother's shop at 11 Merchant's Row. He eventually left the trade and became a ships chandler.
