General notes: Silversmith Events in his life were:
• Alternate Mark • Apprenticed about 1836 to Ebenezer Eaton Bailey and Samuel Chase Bailey in Claremont NH 1
• He was a partner from 1837 to 1839 with Ebenezer Eaton, Charles Chase, and Samuel C. Bailey in Claremont NH as E. E. BAILEY & Co. • Advertised in the Woodstock Spirit of the Age, 1840-1850, as a jeweler and manufacturer of silverware and fancy goods. 4 • Master to Samuel Philbrick Bailey abt 1840 in Woodstock VT. 6 • Master to Bradbury Mellon Bailey abt 1842 in Woodstock VT. 1 • Advertised in the Vermont Standard, 1861, offering silver spoons, warranted pure coin, of every pattern in the market. 4 • 1861-1874: listed in Walton's Register as a silversmith and jeweler. After closing his store in 1867, he continued working as a silversmith from a small workshop in his home at 12 Mountain Avenue 4 • He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Woodstock VT, listed as a silversmith. Roswell married Fidelia Bailey, daughter of Bradbury Bailey and Agnes Marshall, on 3 Feb 1831 in Unity NH. (Fidelia Bailey was born on 12 Dec 1809 in Weare NH and died in 1874 in Woodstock VT.) |
