  Events in his life were:

• Apprenticed from about 1829 to 1836 to Jeremiah Dewey in Middlebury VT
His training was interrupted by the families move to Sandusky OH about 1831.

• He worked from circa 1836 to 1837 as a jeweler in Perrysburg Wood OH

• He worked from circa 1838 to 1843 as a jeweler in Fort Wayne, Allen, IN

• He worked from 1843 to 1860 as a jeweler and watchmaker in Sandusky OH where he supplimented his business with real estate speculation and winemaking. By 1861 the latter had become his primary occupation.

• He appeared on the 1850 census taken at Sandusky OH, listed as a watchmaker.
