• He was a partner from 1849 to 1850 with Frederick Chaffee and Prentice Baird in Pittsfield MA as ROOT, CHAFFEE & BAIRD. A branch store was opened c 1850 in Rutland VT by Chaffee. ⁴

• He was a partner c 1856 with Laurence Root? in Pittsfield MA as W. M. ROOT & BROTHER ⁴

• Advertised in the Bangor Daily Whig and Courier (Bangor ME), 18 May 1861, as part of a group endorsement of the Waltham Watch Company.

• He was a partner in 1873 with Wellington S. Root in Pittsfield MA as W. M. ROOT & SON.

Washington married Charlotte Bailey Hubbard in May 1846 in Pittsfield MA. (Charlotte Bailey Hubbard was born on 22 Feb 1828 in Chester MA and died on 19 Mar 1869 in Pittsfield MA.)
