• He worked from 1802 to 1820 as a silversmith and jeweler in Louisville KY as JOHN G. SCHWING & Co. He left the trade around 1820 and buildt a grist and saw mill near Old Frankford Avenue. ⁵

• Advertised in the Farmer's Library and Ohio Intelligencer (Louisville KY), 10 Mar 1803, informing the "Citizens of Lousiville and its vicinities that they [Joseph Schwing & Co] have commenced business in the Brick House belonging to Capt. James Patton in Louisville, where they will execute every order in their line of business . . ." ⁵
