• Locket, c 1760 • In 1781 appears as goldsmith in diary of William Pinchon. Made spoon inscribed Joanna: Good:he/ ob. 1775. AE 52/B+G; spoon inscribed Saml. Gidds/ob 1777. AE 5g/ B+G; teaspoon for Lucy Baker inscribed N*P. to L*B/ 1779. 4 • Silver bearing mark D•ROGERS, formerly ascribed to Daniel Rogers of Newport, Rhode Island properly belongs to the Ipswich goldsmith. The nucleus for this new theory is church silver at Essex Institute, including cans and beakers formerly owned by churches in Ipswich and Hamilton, some of which bear the D•ROGERS mark. A number of spoons marked similarly or with his initials have also been located. His daybook, now in the Essex Institute, shows that he made quantities of gold beads for fellow goldsmiths. 3 • He signed a will c 1816. 8 Daniel married Elizabeth Simpkins, daughter of William Simpkins and Elizabeth Symmes, on 6 Sep 1760 in Boston MA. (Elizabeth Simpkins was born on 7 Jan 1726 in Boston MA.) Daniel next married Elizabeth Rogers on 8 Mar 1766 in Boston MA. (Elizabeth Rogers was born on 11 Jul 1736 in Ipswich MA and was christened on 11 Jul 1736 in Ipswich MA.) |
