His master's trade in buckle and button making having fallen away, he left to take up steel founding, at which he found considerable success.

• He worked from 1806 to 1835 as a clockmaker in Waterbury CT

• He was a partner from 1829 to 1835 with Benjamin Franklin Leavenworth in Waterbury CT manufacturing gilt buttons.

• He was a partner from 1835 to 1849 with Corydon Stillman Sperry in Waterbury CT manufacturing gilt, brass, and cloth buttons.
