• He was a partner with ? Ford in Erie PA as BALL & FORD with a shop on French Street.

• He worked from circa 1832 to 1835 as a silversmith in Buffalo NY
He returned to Erie PA and abandoned his trade in favor of politics. He later turned to farming and land speculation.
