General notes: Silversmith Events in his life were: • Advertised in 1779 (Enfield CT), as a silversmith. 3 • After his wife's death in 1787, he moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, the first of three well-known Connecticut silversmiths to settle in North Carolina before 1790. On May 8, 1787, John Williams gave a power of attorney to "my trusty friend John Peabody of Wilmington, in the county aforesaid, gentleman." 3 • He worked after 1787 as a silversmith in Wilmington NC 24 • Advertised in the Hall's Wilmington Gazette (Wilmington NC), 15 Nov 1798, thanking public for past favors and telling of large supply of imports from Europe, among which were a few silver-mounted swords. 3 John married Catherine Jessup on 5 Jan 1789 in Wilmington NC. (Catherine Jessup was born about 1760 in Wilmington NC.) John next married Elizabeth Strange on 7 May 1778 in Norwich CT. (Elizabeth Strange was born about 1760 in Norwich CT and died on 15 Oct 1787 in Norwich CT.) |
