General notes: Jeweler Events in his life were: • He was a partner in 1860 with Leverett Griswold Hemingway in Hartford CT as HEMINGWAY & STEVENS, listed in the 1861 city directory at 284 Main Street. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Hemingway volunteered for duty, serving till the end of hostilities. It is not known if the partnership was disolved before or immediately after his service. • Advertised in the Bangor Daily Whig and Courier (Bangor ME), 18 May 1861, as part of a group endorsement of the Waltham Watch Company. • He worked from 1865 to 1880 as a jeweler in Hartford CT as STEVENS & Co, listed in the 1875 city directory at 280 Main Street. • He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Hartford CT, listed as a jeweler. |
