  Events in his life were:

• Apprenticed about 1844 to ROOT & CHAFFEE in Pittsfield MA

• He was a partner from 1849 to 1850 with Washington M. Root and Frederick Chaffee in Pittsfield MA as ROOT, CHAFFEE & BAIRD.

• He was a partner from 1853 to 1856 with Joseph Chaffee in Lee MA as CHAFFEE & BAIRD. After the close of the partnership, he became a paper manufacturer. He later became president of the Lee National Bank and represented the county as a state Senator.
