Almon Ainsworth Mead
General notes: Silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker Events in his life were: • Alternate Mark • Apprenticed about 1840 to Ira Strong Town in Montpelier VT 4 • He was a partner from 1846 to 1849 with Elijah B. Witherill in Montpelier VT as WITHERILL & MEAD. 4 • He was a partner from 1849 to 1857 with Truman Phinney in Montpelier VT as PHINNEY & MEAD. 4
• Tradecard, c 1855 • He worked from 1857 to 1887 as a silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker in Montpelier VT from a shop "At the Sign of the Big Watch" first at 15 State Street and after 1870, at 25 State Street. At his death, he had been in business longer than any other merchant in the town. 4 • Advertised in the Bangor Daily Whig and Courier (Bangor ME), 18 May 1861, as part of a group endorsement of the Waltham Watch Company. • He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Montpelier VT, listed as a jeweler. |
