General notes: Silversmith Events in his life were: • Apprenticed about 1833 to Walter Pitkin in East Hartford CT • He worked from 1860 to 1879 as a silversmith in East Hartford CT as E. M. ROBERTS & Co., having bought out the business of his old master. Listed in the 1861 city directory as silver spoon makers with a shop at 20 State Street. • He was a partner from 1880 to 1890 with Joseph Roberts and Wallace Kenyon in Hartford CT as E. M. ROBERTS & SON. At the firm's failure, its assets and factory were taken over by WILLIAM ROGERS MANUFACTURING Co. • Advertised in the Hartford City Directory (Hartford CT), 1880, as "Manufacturer of Solid Silver and Plated Ware of All Kinds, Old Ware Replated, Hollow Ware Repaired." • He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Hartford CT, listed as a spoon maker. Edwin married Mary Ann Cowles on 17 Sep 1844 in East Hartford CT. (Mary Ann Cowles was born about 1825 in East Hartford CT.) |
