Listed in the 1824 city directory with a shop on Charles Street and in the 1835 directory at 12 Steeple Street.

• He was a partner from 1835 to 1845 with Peter Church in Providence RI as CHURCH & METCALF, listed in the 1836 and 1844 city directories at 12 Steeple Street.

• He appeared on the 1850 census taken at Providence RI, listed as a goldsmith.

Whiting married Almira Taft on 1 Feb 1823 in Providence RI. (Almira Taft was born on 2 Dec 1802 in Cumberland RI.)
