• Apprenticed about 1749 to Thomas Dane in Boston MA ⁷

• He worked from 1756 to 1758 as a silversmith in Hartford CT ⁷

• He worked from 1759 to 1760 as a silversmith in Queens NY
On 21 March 1759 "James Deane. . . born Epswich Boston, trade Silver-Smith" enlisted in Captain James Smith's company of the Queens County militia. ⁷

• He worked from 1762 to 1763 as a silversmith in Falmouth ME
While in Falmouth, he sold a quarter interest in his Ipswich property to silversmith Paul Little. ⁷
