William Quimby
General notes: Silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker Events in his life were: • Apprenticed about 1805 to Abiel B. Eastman in Belfast ME 3 • Master to Phineas Parkhurst Quimby abt 1815 in Belfast ME. 1 • He worked from 1822 to 1830 as a silversmith, watchmaker, and jeweler in Belfast ME succeeding to his master's business with shop located at Main and Beaver Streets. After 1830, he dropped silver work and dealt in general merchandise and dry goods instead. 3 • Advertised in the Hancock Gazette (Belfast ME), 22 Mar 1826, as a clockmaker, and, in addition to other articles, offered for sale silver spoons and tongs. 3 • He was a partner from 1830 to 1831 with Samuel Jackson, Jr. in Belfast ME as JACKSON & QUIMBY. 3 |
