General notes: Silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker Events in his life were: • Apprenticed about 1818 to Henry Pearson in Portland ME • He worked from circa 1830 to 1837 as a silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker in Portland ME with a shop two doors below Merchants Bank, Exchange Street (1834) and at No. 6 Exchange Street (1837). • He was a partner from circa 1837 to 1857 with William Henry Harrison Hatch in Portland ME as BANKS & HATCH at the Sign of the Quadrant and Watch, No. 6 Exchange Street (1841) and 72 Exchange Street (1844). • He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Portland ME, listed as a watchmaker. Edward married Ellen Soule in 1853 in Portland ME. (Ellen Soule was born on 28 Sep 1828 in Freeport ME.) |
