General notes: Silversmith and clockmaker Events in his life were: • Apprenticed about 1806 to Joshua Wilder in Hingham MA • He worked from circa 1810 to 1825 as a silversmith in Providence RI 3 • He worked in 1825 as a silversmith in Nantucket MA 3 • Advertised in the Nantucket Inquirer (Nantucket MA), 30 May 1825, announcing his intention to carry on the silver, watch- and clockmaking business. 3 • He appeared on the 1850 census taken at New Bedford MA, listed as a watch and clockmaker. • He appeared on the 1860 census taken at Sandwich MA, listed as a watch and clockmaker. Allen married Mercy Freeman on 9 May 1814. (Mercy Freeman was born on 27 Aug 1792 in Middleboro MA and died about 1818 in Nantucket MA.) Allen next married Mrs. Rebecca Kelley after 1818. (Mrs. Rebecca Kelley died before 2 Dec 1836 in Nantucket MA.) |
