  • Norwich CT, 1785-1836: account books covering these years, part of the collection of Society of Founders of Norwich (Leffingwell Inn), show that he made dials, pewter, glasses, watch keys, etc., for Thomas Harland. He also made jewelry and watches, table silverware, warming pans, and did a thriving business in clocks. He was a man of influence in Norwich, representing the town many times in the State Legislature and was a judge of county and probate courts. He probably gave up mechanical trades about 1800, having become a successful investor in the West Indian trade. 3
