• Worked as silversmith in Essex about 1823. Later engaged (probably with George Spencer, once apprenticed to Nathan's father) in the manufacture of ivory combs, an industry based upon a mechanical invention of his grandfather, Phineas Pratt. Company still doing business as Pratt, Read Company. ³
