Events in his life were:
• Apprenticed about 1693 to Jeremiah Drummer in Boston MA 8 Suggested by his father's business association with Drummer.
• He worked from about 1702 to 1711 as a silversmith in Boston MA Edward Winslow and James Barnes, goldsmiths, gave surety for Henry Hurst for the sum of £200 before the Supreme Judicial Court of Suffolk County. His inheritance from his father's estate was apparently sufficient for him to give up his career. 8
James married Mary Tay on 13 Jan 1708 in Boston MA. (Mary Tay was born on 16 Mar 1688 in Billerica MA and died on 30 Oct 1721.)
