• Apprenticed about 1784 to William Coffin Little in Newburyport MA 1
• Newburyport MA, Dec 1793: the sheriff of Essex County was commanded to arrest John Burrough of Newbury and William Little of Newburyport, goldsmiths, for: ". . . having in their Custody and Possession two dies for stamping and Counterfeiting Spanish Milled Dollars with intent to use and improve the same for that purpose. Also for having and keeping in their possession one plate for forging and counterfeiting Notes in Imitation of those issued by the Union Bank and one other plate for counterfeiting Notes issued by Massachusetts Bank with an intent to use them for counterfeiting the Notes issued by said Banks . . . " Burrough was not found, but Little was committed to the Newburyport jail in June 1794. He plead not guilty at the June session of the Ipswich court and was found innocent of all charges. 7
