General notes: Silversmith and jeweler Events in his life were: • Apprenticed about 1805 to John Ellingwood in Salem MA • Apprenticed about 1806 to Jabez Baldwin in Salem MA • He worked from circa 1815 to 1818 as a silversmith in Wilmington NC 3 • Wilmington NC, 1816: initiated as a Mason in St. John's Lodge. • Advertised in the Cape Fear Recorder (Wilmington NC), 5 Apr 1817, thanking the public for past patronage and offering jewelry, watches, and silver tea- and tablespoons. 24 • Advertised in the Cape Fear Recorder (Wilmington NC), 9 May 1818, announcing that he wished to close his shop and offering a range of goods for sale. • He worked after 1818 as a silversmith and jeweler in Beverly MA • Beverly MA, 1824: a founding member of Liberty Masonic Lodge and its first secretary. Stephens married Adeline Batchelder on 26 Jul 1827 in Beverly MA. (Adeline Batchelder was born on 13 Jan 1801 in Beverly MA.) Stephens next married Mary Ann Foster on 6 Jul 1871 in Beverly MA. (Mary Ann Foster was born on 22 Feb 1811 in Beverly MA.) |
