• He was a partner in 1838 with Samuel Virgin in Macon GA as J. A. & S. S. VIRGIN.
In addition to their silver and jewelery business, the firm was associated with other ventures:
-- 16 March 1837 to 06 October 1838 with a Dr. Stringfellow, Dentist, as VIRGINS & SPRINGFELLOW.
-- 15 October 1840 with Bruno's Music Store as BRUNO & VIRGINS, importers of musical instruments. A branch was later opened in Columbus GA.
