• He was a partner from 1844 to 1849 with William Phyfe in New York City NY as EOFF & PHYFE, with shop at 5 Dey Street. Apparently, Phyfe caught gold fever and sailed to California. He is recorded in the 1850 census at Placerville CA. On his return in 1852, the partnership resumed. 4

• He worked from 1850 to 1854 as a silversmith in New York City NY llisted in the 1850 New York Union Mercantile Directory at 83 Deane Street. 6
