Descends from Isaac; Andrew; Susan m Aaron TARR; and Leroy Andrew TARR.  TARR's were from the Venango Co., Cherrytree (Oil City), PA.  A clarification from  Nancy Dressing as of 19 September 2004:  "We are unable to find a connection prior to Isaac Countryman of Varick, NY born in PA.  Most of the Countryman genealogies show an Isaac Countryman in Varick, born in 1815 and assume that this man descends from John Frederick GUNTERMAN through Conradt, Sr.; Conradt, Jr.; Anthony.  We are unable to find an Isaac Countryman in Varick other than my gggrandfather who is Isaac of Varick, born 1800 somewhere in PA..  My mother, a certified genealogical researcher, tried for over 40 years to find Isaac's parents and David Montgomery has tried but to date to no avail.  Research in PA will be required to find our connection and we tend to think he might be descended from the John Frederick who went to PA but this is not proved.  Bonnie Hazlett thought she had found the line, but her data was incorrect and it has been posted many places and Bonnie seems to have disappeared.  I have tried to contact her via descendants but to no avail.  I think it might help other researchers if this error is corrected. "  6 April 2005 Roll Call:  My line is LeRoy Tarr, son of Susan Countraman, of Andrew Countraman, of Isaac Countryman born in PA in 1800, d Varick, NY 1880. (all from Seneca County, NY) The Isaac Countryman of Varick, NY b 1815 and moved to Varick, NY as mentioned in the Countryman Genealogy page 91, is not the Isaac that lived in Varick. The children listed are his but he is not of Antonius. Our Isaac was born somewhere in PA and we are unable to connect him to any family. He is as far back as we can go with our Countryman branch. Where in PA could he have come from? We have been searching for his ancestors for nearly 60 years with no answers!!! What a breakthrough if we could find him and what a disappointment it must be for the people whose believed their line was to this Isaac and then to Antonius.

There was an Adam Gunderman who lived in Derry Township and is listed in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 censuses as Adam Countryman, Adam Gunderman and Adam Guntreman. He may well be the John Adam Gunterman who was born to John Gunterman and baptized June 7, 1795 at St. Jacob's Kimmerling Church in North Lebanon Township, with another John Adam Gunterman as sponsor. Janczuk, Chris (Countryman) Yes Johann Frederick via Jacob of Canada Descends from William (William, Jacob, Jacob) and Kate SINGLETON. William was born in 1836 in Edwardsburgh Township, Grenville, Ontario. He was the son of William COUNTRYMAN and Barbara "Barbary" REID. Kate SINGLETON was b in 1844. William came to Oswego around 1860-1865. Records indicate that his father remained in Canada, and possibly was still alive in 1879. William was a wagon maker and d Sept. 11, 1889, age 54. Kate d Jan. 28, 1884, age 41. They had 4 children: 1) James , b 1865 in NY. 2) George A. , b Nov. 1866, died Nov. 14, 1930. 3) Frank B. , b Oct. 1868 in NY, d March 20, 1953. 4) Gertrude Ellen , b 1878 (or Apr. 17, 1879) in NY, d in 1935. Gertrude and three elder brothers are listed in the 1875 census of Oswego, NY, 3rd ward west of 6th street; listed as CONTRAMAN. The brothers were James, then aged 10; George, 8; Frank, 6. Gertrude was orphaned by 1889 and was brought up in Hannibal by her aunt, Elizabeth SINGLETON, and uncle, James Havens. She is buried on the Lonis lot in the Hannibal village cemetery.   George Countryman (William, William, Jacob, Jacob) was born November 1866 in Oswego, NY. He married Anna GALLAWAY b Aug. 1869 in NY and d Dec. 15, 1938. They had 3 children: 1) Anna K. (or Kathleen A. on tombstone), b 1893 in Oswego, NY, d 1951. She married Francis P. LEE. Frank was born in 1893 and d in 1951. 2) Agnes Naneen , b Jul. 1895 in Oswego, NY. 3) William J. , b May 1899 in Oswego, NY, d Jan. 5, 1950  m Hazel I. WHEELER (Dec. 30, 1902 - Jan. 25, 1990). William J. Countryman I and Hazel were Chris' grandparents.  Update from Chris, dated 13 July 2002: My great grandfather's sister was Gertrude Ellen, b 1878 (or Apr. 17, 1879) in NY, d in 1935. Gertrude and three elder brothers are listed in the 1875 census of Oswego, NY, 3rd ward west of 6th street; listed as CONTRAMAN. The brothers were James, then aged 10; George, 8; Frank, 6. Gertrude was orphaned by 1889 and was brought up in Hannibal by her aunt, Elizabeth SINGLETON, and uncle. I originally listed the uncle's name as James Havens. His name on the tombstone is Cornelius. My Lee family connection couldn't find a James and Elizabeth Havens listed together in the 1880 census. I checked the Hannibal village cemetery website because I knew that Gertrude (Countryman) Lonis was buried there. I found a lot of the Haven(s) family members but I couldn't find a plot with that combination of names. So I checked with Maynard Lonis, the son of Gertrude, and he checked the tombstone. He gave me the correction. Maynard is sure that when he was little he used to go to the house of James and Elizabeth. So he's not sure if James was a nickname for Cornelius or James was possibly a son. If anyone happens to come across this family during their research I'd like to know the connection. Meanwhile, I'll probably contact the Hannibal historian who helped me in the past and see if she can help me again. I would also like to mention that I'm grateful to Maynard and the authors of the "Jacob Countryman" book, who uncovered most of the information that I have on my ancestors.

She was born in Cherry Valley, Illinois May 3, 1853. Left behind husband, 5 children, 23 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. I have pretty good "circumstantial" evidence that he is the son of Frederick and "Beggi" Beliinger COUNTRYMAN, and the descendent (grandson) of Conrad I (as I believe most upstate NYS Countryman's are!) If this is correct, my direct line would be: Johan Frederick > Frederick > Adam > Rebecca (m. Adam Nestle) > Solomon Nestle > Mary Martha Nestle (Bird) > Melvin Bird > Lillian Bird (Strong) > ME!  I am looking for "good proof" that Adam F. is the son of Frederick and for more information on his other children ("family lore" says there should be 16 of them; I can only document 5!). Therefore I am also interested in any upstate NY (possibly also Canada, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, etc.) COUNTRYMAN of the "fourth" generation. This family has become my favorite one to research (due in large part to this wonderful list and all the other great COUNTRYMAN researchers I have met here!) So I have gathered up quite a bit of information I am only too happy to share."  In response to the 4 April 2005's Roll Call: "My direct line is Johann Frederich to Conrad I > Frederick (m. M. Wardley, Jim of Knoxville, TN Yes Johann Frederick Descends from Johann Friederich COUNTRYMAN and his wife Maria Barbara SIMON; Andreas Frantz Countryman b1695 m first Anna Sibylla SCHARRMAN in Sept 1715 and she died about 1726 in Dutchess Co NY. Andreas then m Cornelia KEYSER 6 Sept 1728 in Kingston NY. Andreas and Cornelia had Andrew (Andreas) Countryman born April 1732. He went to PA and m Elizabeth (unknown) ca 1750. She was born about 1750 in Lancaster, PA. They moved to SC before the War and it is she who carried water to the men at the battle of Kings Mountain. (Their property obtained by Kings grant is very near the battle site.) Andrew and Elizabeth have Sarah (Isabella) and she m James Holmes BRYSON. Jim's line is from Sarah (Isabell) and James Holmes BRYSON. Andrew died before 2 April 1773 in St Mark's Parish in York Co SC. When the Palatines came to NY several Countrymans went shortly to PA. Andrew joined them later. I would like any info about the Countrymans and Biggers in PA and SC. Because the families moved together etc I have thought perhaps Elizabeth is a BIGGERS.

Young, John E. Yes   Has a Johann Christian JUNG married to Maria Elizabeth CONTREMAN joining the German Reformed Church in Montgomery (Orange County), New York in 1754 "with papers from Germany".  They were probably in their earlytwenties (age) at the time.  They baptized two children in that church, and then Maria apparently died.  Johann remarried, sired seven more children, was widowed again, remarried again, and sired eight more children.  All baptisms and the two later marriages were recorded in that church.  I have not found any definite record of their entering America or where they emigrated from.  In response to the 6 April 2005 Roll Call: "My link is this: Johann Christian Jung and Maria (Mariles) Contreman are recorded as joining the German Reformed Church (now known as the Brick Reformed Church) in the town of Montgomery, Orange County, NY, in 1754, 'with papers from Germany'.   They were probably in their early twenties (age) at the time. They baptized two children in that church, and then Maria apparently died. Johann remarried, sired seven more children, was widowed again, remarried again, and sired eight more children.
